Winthrop Real Estate

Winthrop is a small, intimate community jutting out on a peninsula that extends into Boston Harbor. The town is only 5 miles from Downtown Boston and is well-served by an MBTA Blue line train which stops at Orient Heights. This access makes Winthrop an ideal place to settle for those attracted to a waterfront community just minutes by car or train from the cultural and economic opportunity of the Boston.

Winthrop enjoys the identity of a tightly-knit, family-oriented community with a wealth of recreation found in a several parks and playgrounds, six public beaches, four tennis courts, five athletic fields, a public landing for boats and an indoor skating rink. Winthrop's Recreation Department offers programs year-round for children and adults. Sports programs are particularly abundant; kids can participate in little league, football, softball, soccer or hockey. Adults as well have many options for socializing and civic participation in an array of organizations including the Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club, American Legion, Amvets, Knights of Columbus, Elks, Sons of Italy, Historical Society, Beautification Committees, Council on Aging, Youth Commission, Winthrop Playmakers, a senior center, three yacht clubs and a golf club.

Though covering only 1.6 square miles, Winthrop has a number of sections that all enjoy a long history since the town's first settlement in the 1630's. The beach, Cottage Hill, Court Park, Cottage Park, Point Shirley and the two hills of the Highlands section were all originally part of different family farms, but now comprise residential neighborhoods while Winthrop's newly-revitalized Town Center features a variety of shops.

With its own school district, museum, library and a host of convenient municipal services, Winthrop is a great ocean-side community with many points offering panoramic views of the outer harbor and the Boston skyline. The town features a variety of housing types ranging from condos, single-family and multi-family homes that represent an even greater variety of architectural styles like capes, bungalows, and Victorians. Condo prices begin under $200,000 and average home prices are between $360,000 and $440,000.
