Reading Real Estate

Reading is a moderately-sized town of 22,000 residents spread out over nearly 10 square miles. The growth of this residential community is due to its position at the junction of two major interstate arteries: Routes 95 and 93. Reading, as hub of commuters to and out of Boston, has also proved ideal for industrial and commercial development with several large companies and retailers having locations near the highway. Despite, the significant flow of traffic, Reading has retained its open space and residential identity. The Town of Reading owns over 900 acres of protected conservation lands that can be publicly used. Facilities include the Town Forest and Bare Meadow, with hiking, bird watching and cross country ski trails. Additional trails, canoeing or picnic sites are available at other protected nature land such as: Pinevale, A.J. Schneider Woods, Kurchian Woods, Lob's Pound Mill, Xavier, Higgins, and Sledge Woods. Beyond Reading, shopping is available at the Burlington Mall, a few miles south along Route 95 and to the north on that highway are vast stretches of beaches along the North Shore.

Boston, with all of its commercial, cultural and economic opportunity lies just 12 miles south. All of Reading's accessibility plus the New England character of the town make Reading an ideal residential area. First settled in 1639, the town was incorporated in 1644. Today, many volunteer boards, committees and commissions assist an elected board of selectmen and a representative town meeting in governing the town, attesting to the civic pride and enthusiasm the people of Reading feel for their community.

Reading's committed investment in education is apparent in the quality of its schools. The school district is comprised of five elementary schools, two middle schools and a high school. These facilities are complimented by an array of special programs in sports, recreation and continuing education that serve all people of this vibrant community.

Homes in reading consist of both single family houses and condo/townhouses to meet the needs of the town's diverse population of single professionals, retired seniors and families with children. Condos start at $175,000 for a one bedroom unit and single family homes with three bedrooms average $430,000.
