Norfolk Real Estate

Norfolk is a partially rural suburban town on the upper valley of the Charles River. This historic town at the outer edge of Metropolitan Boston lies just 20 miles southeast from the city's downtown. Additionally, Norfolk is within a short distance of Providence, Rhode Island, Cape Cod and the islands. With access to both economic and recreational opportunities, Norfolk is an ideal community, well-suited for suburban families.

Norfolk was first settled in 1669, but early homes from this period were destroyed during native uprisings during King Phillip's War. Some 18th century dwellings still stand however and among them is the Warelands, a 1733 home, originally known as The Elisha Ware House. What is now Norfolk was once known as North Wrentham and its local economy was agricultural and based in farming and grazing. By 1812, there was manufacturing as well at three cotton mills, powered by the stream of Stony Brook. Later industry in Norfolk existed at the Campbell's paper mill. This growing community eventually became incorporated as an independent town in 1870. Norfolk saw its most rapid expansion in 1925 when the state built a prison and a hospital in town. To house the growing population, there was residential development along Pondville, Clark, Seekonk and Main Streets. Even today, new housing continues to be added to Norfolk.
Norfolk's approximately 10,000 residents can take advantage of a number of municipal services including police, fire and water departments. Norfolk also has its own school district consisting of elementary schools for grades K to 6. Additionally, Norfolk is a member of the King Philip Regional School District that offers middle school and high school education.
Single family homes in this quiet community come in a variety of architectural styles that reflect the long history of the area. Single family properties start at under $300,000. The median price for an attractive four bedroom home on an ample lot is around $480,000.
