Marshfield Real Estate

Marshfield, a coastal community on the Atlantic Ocean is located in Plymouth County, just 29 miles southeast of Boston and 18 miles east of Brockton. The town's area of roughly 31 square miles includes 5 miles of beachfront. This fact appeals to summer visitors whose presence more than doubles Marshfield's regular population of 21,000 residents to 40,000 during tourist season. Another local asset is the proximity to highways. Route 3, which connects the Boston area to Cape Cod crosses through Marshfield and gives easy access for commuters. Additionally, there is Red Line train service to Downtown Boston available from nearby Braintree and Quincy. A limited number of commuter buses is also available.

Marshfield has a long history, stretching back to the colonial era. One notable town native was Daniel Webster, whose birthplace is in Marshfield and after whom the Daniel Webster School is named. This school is among Marshfield's five public elementary schools. Additional schools in the town's school system include a middle school and high school. The school department as well as other high quality municipal services such as public safety, recreation, the public library, senior center, water and sewer, and trash removal are provided by the town's three-member board of selectmen form of government. The town government, also run by open meeting is active in revitalizing the downtown area.

This lively community, blessed with both coastal and inland beauty, comes alive particularly during special events such as the yearly Marshfield Fair that attracts visitors from all over the area. Duxbury to the south, Pembroke and Norwell to the west, and Scituate to the north are the towns that surround Marshfield.

Home prices in this desirable community start at $100,000 to $150,000 for condo units and at just above $200,000 for modest single-family homes. Average home prices are around $450,000.
