Lunenburg Real Estate

Lunenburg, 29 miles north of the City of Worcester is a semi-rural residential community that lies in northern Worcester County. The town, incorporated in 1729, developed in three different clusters, each around one of Lunenburg's three principal lakes. Lake Whalom and Whalom Amusement Park delineate the Whalom District from the remainder of Lunenburg. This district developed as a housing base for many factory workers in the mills and factories of nearby Leominster and Fitchburg. The Hickory Hills area of town, around Hickory Hills Lake, was developed as a private community comprised primarily of vacation cottages. Other vacation properties grew up around the Shirley Reservoir, and these homes have been modified as year-round residences. The remainder of Lunenburg, which originally consisted of farms and orchards, developed over time into large-lot, single-family housing. Commercial and industrial development is permitted in several areas of town along the two major arteries, routes 2A and 13.

The town is also accessible to nearby Interstates 190 and 495 and those relying on public transportation are served by a regular bus line run by the Mount Wachusett Regional Transit Authority. The town government of Lunenburg is run by open town meeting and by a board of selectmen. The community features a variety of local organizations such as a Lions Club, Rotary Club and by a number of youth sports activities. Additionally, there is a full-time police department and fire department.

Lunenburg covers 27 square miles and many of its 9000 residents participate actively in the community's activities such as a homecoming parade and annual charity run sponsored by the Lunenburg Track and Field Association.

Small two-bedroom homes and condo/ townhouses in Lunenburg start selling in the high $100,000 range. Average prices for the abundance of ranch and colonial homes are around $350,000-$450,000. More expensive homes, over $700,000, feature large scale new constructions set on expansive acreage.
