Cohasset is a quiet ocean-front residential town 20 miles southeast of Boston. The name, of the town, originally Conohasset, means "long rocky place". Long ago, the area was chronicled by Captain John Smith who mentions this rocky coast in a book about his voyage to New England in 1614.

Cohasset's central village lies around a wide common with a small pond, and features specialty shops, the colonial First Parish Meeting House and St. Stephen's Church. The church, with its 56 bell carillon, has offered Sunday concerts since 1824. The town has active Community and Arts Centers, three historical museums and the renowned South Shore Music Circus. There is a great deal of open-space outdoor activities are abundant in Cohasset at the Swim Club, two beaches and the recreational facilities of Whitney Woods Reservation and the Wompatuck State Park. Along the waterfront of Cohasset Harbor are facilities for dining, sailing and a replica of the famous Minot's light.

Additionally, many of the town's 7000 residents involve themselves in an array of cultural and civic activities such as fine arts and music organizations.
