Carlisle Real Estate

Carlisle is a rural town 20 miles northwest of Boston. Residents of this scenic community that boasts the only working cranberry bog in Middlesex County, participate actively in town government that is run by a board of selectmen and by open town meetings. To preserve its attractive natural beauty, Carlisle maintains roughly twenty-five-percent of its fifteen square mile town as undeveloped conservation land.

Without services like public water, sewer life in Carlisle is rustic. There is no door-to door garbage removal or even mail service. Carlisle residents treat their trips to the post office and waste transfer station as the social events of the week. For more lively activity, residents and visitors can enjoy hiking and cross country skiing trails that are lit by lantern at night. Great Brook Farm State Park and other protected land provide spectacular country views of white pine forests, open fields, bogs, wetlands, wildlife refuges and a landscape peppered with ponds and old weathered barns.

There is little traffic in the circle at the center of town and no need for traffic lights in Carlisle with a population of approximately 5000 residents. This low population of friendly neighbors encourages a community spirit and pride in local history. Settled in the 1700's, Carlisle was originally a district of neighboring Concord, but the community became incorporated as its own town by 1805. Despite its two centuries of history, Carlisle has changed little from a sleepy community of farms and dairy land.

Carlisle has its own library and public elementary school and shares the Concord-Carlisle Regional High School and the Minutemen Science Technology High School with neighboring communities. The towns bordering Carlisle are Concord to the south; Westford and Acton to the west; Billerica and Bedford to the east and Chelmsford to the north. The town is accessible by Route 2 and Route 225, which link Carlisle with Interstates 495 and 95.

In Carlisle, people can enjoy a quiet country life of outdoor beauty and small town simplicity while still living less than a thirty minute drive from the conveniences in and around Boston. The homes here, predominately set on large multi-acre lots, start at $560,000 for a three-bedroom single family home.
