Boxford Real Estate

Boxford is an affluent and rural community 25 miles north of Boston. Median incomes, home price and home size statistics are significantly above state averages. Most homes feature four or more bedrooms and are priced above $600,000. Smaller and less expensive homes, as well as condominium units are available. Though Boxford was incorporated as a town in 1685, and some older period homes remain, the majority of homes were constructed in the past sixty years. Nevertheless, the dominant style is colonial and Boxford has the charm as other old New England towns.

This family oriented town covering over 24 square miles has 8000 residents. This low population density is owed to a 1949 ordinance establishing a minimum lot size of two acres. This regulation has created a sprawling community that maintains a country appeal and has made Boxford the second largest town in Essex County. Boxford's neighbors include Haverhill, Groveland, Georgetown and Rowley on the north; Ipswich and Topsfield to the east; Middleton to the south; and North Andover is to the west. Boxford is a desirable community for commuters because of its access to Interstate 95 and Route 133. Commuter rail service to Boston is available in neighboring Haverhill.

This family oriented community has opportunities for outdoor recreation. There are numerous trails for hiking and horse riding. The Boxford Athletic Association manages several playing fields and a swimming pond in the summer. Boxford shares the Masconomet Regional School District with its neighbors Topsfield and Middleton. The middle school and high school are regional. However, Boxford has two public elementary schools in town as well as a kindergarten to grade eight private academy.

Boxford has an active historical/genealogical society and a public library with a large collection on Elm Street. Additionally, there are full-time police and fire departments. Boxford provides a balance between a small residential town of rural charm with a well-served community whose residents benefit from convenience.
