Allston Real Estate

Allston, a lively and popular neighborhood in the western part of Boston offers ethnic diversity, easy access to public transportation and seemingly endless choices of ethnic restaurants, mom and pop shops and night spots. Famous among attractions is Harper's Ferry, a music venue where jazz and blues enthusiasts can hear local performers.

Allston, incorporated into the City of Boston in 1873, has generous bus and trolley service that links it to downtown Boston as well as to the adjacent communities of Cambridge, Brighton, Newton and Brookline. Additionally major arteries such as the Massachusetts Turnpike, Jamaicaway, Storrow Drive and Route 9 intersect the neighborhood.

As part of the City of Boston, Allston residents can send their children to any of the city's public schools. Within the neighborhood itself, there are four local elementary schools and several private and charter schools. Additionally, Allston lies in close proximity to the area's rich supply of colleges and universities such as Boston University, Harvard, Boston College and Northeastern University.

The community offers a mixture of housing choices: multifamily, single family and condominiums. The average condo price is in the mid $200,000 to $300,000 range and single family houses average in the high $300,000 to $400,000 range. The neighborhood's active rental market also offers many opportunities for buyers interested in multi-family properties.

Historically home to Boston's meatpacking industry, Allston centers now on a variety of retail businesses and eateries along Harvard Avenue. This vibrant Boston neighborhood with its convenience and affordability has long attracted young families and students. With typically Boston brick-faced buildings along the main street, Allston also features a suburban feel along its side streets, lined with well-maintained Victorian single and multifamily homes. The fact that real estate prices have more than doubled in the past ten years attests that Allston is a thriving and highly desirable place to live only minutes from downtown Boston.
